Summary

It’s a lot easier to lead by example than it is to change other people’s behavior. If you want to encourage feedback between the people on your team or at your organization, you’re going to have to create an environment where people feel safe and encouraged to give real feedback. On this episode of the Radical Candor podcast, Kim, Jason and Amy talk about how to encourage feedback between others so you can keep this whole Radical Candor thing going after you've read the book, listened to a keynote or taken a workshop. Hello, everybody. Welcome to the Radical Canter Podcast. I'm Kim Scott, co-founder of Radical Cander

0:10.2

and Just Work. And I'm Jason Roseoff, co-founder of Radical Cander. And I'm Amy Sandler, your host

0:17.1

for the Radical Cander podcast. You know, we often get questions about what to do after you've either

0:23.5

read Radical Candor the book or maybe you attended a workshop or a keynote. How can you actually keep

0:28.3

this whole radically candid feedback thing going? And maybe even more important, how do you

0:32.8

encourage other people to do the same? So today, we're going to talk about how to encourage feedback between

0:39.2

other people. So this is the last step in the Radical Candor Order of Operations. And if you're not

0:45.2

0:50.1

first we start by getting feedback. We've got to show that we can take it before we start

0:55.0

dishing it out. So you get feedback. You give feedback. By the way, you give more praise than criticism.

1:00.1

We want to focus on the good stuff. You gauge feedback. How is your feedback landing? Remember,

1:06.2

it's measured not at your mouth as the speaker, but at the other person's ear. So you gauge

1:10.6

feedback. And then

1:11.6

finally, encourage feedback. And this is something we're doing throughout, is encouraging feedback.

1:16.8

But what exactly do we mean by encouraging feedback? So Kim, tell us more, what do you think

1:22.7

encouraging feedback means to you? How do you encourage other people to practice radical candor?

1:28.4

It's so much easier to lead by example than it is to encourage other people's behavior.

1:34.0

If you want to encourage feedback between people on your team or at your organization,

1:40.1

you're going to have to create an environment in which people feel rewarded when they give

1:45.3

real feedback, when they give each other real feedback. I don't think it's ever going to feel

1:51.1

exactly safe or comfortable or risk-free. You need to create an environment in which the rewards

1:59.1

outweigh the risks and in which the rewards are pretty visible.
