I've been looking forward to this one for a while.

So how would you get us started by telling us a little bit about yourself and what you do?

Sure.

My name's Amelia Gordon, and I was a high school English teacher in Columbus, Ohio,

for Columbus City Schools for seven years. Recently moved to Washington, D.C., and now I'm teaching

sixth grade, World Geography, and co-founder of Erase the Space with Derek.

And I'm Derek Birch.

I teach English and on Tangi local schools.

And I've been doing that for about 13 years.

And yeah, I'm co-founder of Erase the Space with Amelia.

And it was a project that we built across our classrooms when she was at South High and I was at Liberty High School. Fantastic. So let's talk about that for a little

bit. What is Erase the Space and what is its purpose? Initially, Erase the Space was a project

for our students to engage in learning together outside of the segregated schools that we have.

A lot of it came from Amelia and I's kind of observations and collaboration together.

But it started as just a class project that we designed for our students to have authentic discourse
