My name is Rudy Reyes. My family is from South Texas. We're Latino. My father is from the border. Rudy Raya Sr. who gave me his name. He was a

marine in Vietnam and enlisted, but my biological father is Gustavo de la Jata and he's actually Mexican but of Spanish and European descent

he came from a very educated family and and he joined the Marine Corps as well.

So interesting that these parallel and he joined the Marine Corps as well.

So interesting that these parallel lives

and how they intersect.

I later became a Marine and a Recal Marine

and fought overseas with the best and brightest

of our generation.

But it's so interesting, the loving father I had, the man that gave me his name, Rudy Reyes Sr.

I only spent a few years with him before my family broke up and he gave me his name and I was not even his biological son and it's so special and

rest in peace I love him and miss him very much and I see some of the wisdom now

that I am close to the age that he was when he passed. I understand what he was

talking about in reflection. I have two little brothers, Michael and Caesar, and

then and then later Rudy Ray Sr. had another family and I have John Ray and Evangeline and little

Dede. So because of poverty and my mother's family was, they were migrant workers and laborers,

it was very poor and after my family broke up I found myself very young with my two little brothers on the border.

We still had dirt floors and dirt roads, yet.

Yet, it was some very happy things too.

One of the walls, outer walls of the house was missing.

And there's a canal and we had an outhouse in the back and it was kind of third world right it was third world

but it was also it was also wonderful. So the first things I learned to do as a kid would go to
