Welcome to Manager Tools. Today's topic, how to assign work tasks, part two. Here we go. So step one was, will you please? And I was get to step two, which is hopefully the easy part.

Right. Just stating the actual task.

Yeah, this is the do X part of asking.

Would you please do X?

Would you please review everybody's budget calculations?

Would you please double check the sales figures?

Would you please run the staff meeting?

Okay?

And now look, I know some of you are listening to those and you can immediately almost add to every one of those

for me as in, would you please do X for me?

Would you please review everybody's budget calculations for me? Would you please double check's budget calculations for me?

Would you please double check the sales figures for me?

Would you please run the staff meeting for me?

Okay?

Somehow, it feels sort of natural when we ask because the asking is a relationship move

that somehow then people pollute it by saying for me. The asking makes it a

favor and then you have to sweeten it with this relationship bit of saying for me.

But the relationship part of the behavior isn't the asking so much as it is

you not having to demand. And so hopefully when you hear these examples, you realize leaving it off still works and it works just fine.

So in other words, would you please review everybody's budget calculations?

Would you please double check the sales figures, would you please

run the staff meeting?
