Today's 10-minute walk is helping you keep your fitness promise, which adds another link to your growing fitness chain.

It's a little quieter here in Myrtle Beach, although at the moment you're hearing a truck in the distance, that may not sound quiet but what i mean is

0:25.0

we're no longer in the busiest part of tourist season so the big crowds aren't here traffic is a

0:31.5

little bit lighter and i walk to the center of town there are not quite as many people there

0:37.3

are more parking spaces available.

0:39.3

Us locals kind of like it. We like when we get our town back to ourselves.

0:45.3

The thing is, it still feels like summer and so those who are able, they can take advantage of lower hotel rates and still come down and enjoy a week at the beach or a long weekend.

Remember Life magazine? I think when I was a kid it was a weekly magazine, but then it went away and came back as a monthly magazine and then that went away and then there were just these special editions. I don't even if they still do that, probably not, but I haven't been paying attention.

1:16.0

But I do remember, and I think this was during that time when they were a monthly magazine.

1:21.7

I remember seeing an article in one edition of Life magazine about a young woman.

1:28.3

And the article was all about essentially how she set a really hard goal for herself

1:34.8

and did whatever was necessary to reach that goal.

1:39.0

And in her case, the goal was she wanted to move to the woods.

1:43.8

But she didn't have the resources to buy property or build a house.

1:49.0

And so the article talked about all the different jobs that she took.

1:54.0

And it was like, do you, does this person ever sleep?

1:59.0

But she was focused on this goal and she made enough money to buy a piece of

2:06.8

property in the woods and then she built the house. She cleared the land and she built the house.

2:15.6

And I remember reading that and being so inspired that I cut the article

2:21.0

out of the magazine and had it for years, decades even. Got an email recently from Patty.

2:31.6

And Patty says towards the end of the email, I guess the moral of this email is, no matter what life throws at you, if you set your mind to doing something, you just find a way to make it happen. Kind of like that young woman who wrote on her calendar, moved to the woods, circled the date, and then did whatever she had to do to make that goal happen.
