Ask Coach Heather episode. Today I'm going to be coaching Lisa in our coaching call with Lisa. She is really wanting to lose weight and keep it off. She's struggled with gaining and losing weight over the years and we discussed the surefire way for her to get where she wants to be by being really brutally honest with herself and being willing to track and pay attention to her food for a few weeks learning how to bulk up some of her meals and snacks to make it to where she's not getting

I promise you promise you promise you most of the questions you have. There is a YouTube video that will answer it. So if you're struggling with something I try to keep those five to 10 minutes long. That is a wonderful resource for you just to get some quick answers to questions you might be struggling with.

2:48.7

Then I also do the VIP email where I help you with some mindset changes so you can be successful in your journey. I normally give you a little homework assignment. Some other resources that might be helpful. And then you can hit reply to submit a question for the show.

Of course we have the community membership. Of course I've teaching toolkits and coaching casts and things of that nature that are available in our store. But I have a ton of free stuff I would encourage you to dive into first.

3:27.7

All right. So now without any further ado, let's jump into your VIP questions.

3:33.7

All right. Our first question comes from Rola. Rolla says I am a big fan of the show congrats on 500 episodes. Thank you, Rola.

3:46.7

Long story short, I had an incredibly emotionally taxing year in 2020. I got married, ended three close friendships dealt with COVID like everyone else lost a job, got a new job and moved in the process of just trying to survive.

4:00.7

I gained 40 pounds from 190 to 230. My therapist and I decided to take a break for a while, but I finally decided to try to lose weight as slowly as I can.

4:11.7

One thing that I noticed really affects my progress is the scale. If it goes up, I'm devastated and binge and if it goes down, I sabotage myself and say it's okay to have all of those treats.

4:24.7

I've lost about eight pounds so far, but I want to put my scale away for the rest of this journey. Is this feasible or do I need to learn to accept the number? Can I measure my progress in any other way? Thanks in advance, sincerely, Rola.

4:38.7

I have a treat for you, my dear. If you go to the Half-Size Me YouTube channel, I have an entire playlist for you called Scale Struggles. The reason I mention this is because your brain, the way your brain is wired, it is always going to look for proof or ways to convince you to not do something that could be risky.

5:03.7

I've been talking a lot about this in my latest YouTube videos on how my thinking leads to eating. What I see happening for people is they've had a lot of past pain around this idea of weight loss, around the scale.

5:19.7

Their lower brain wants to protect them from the pain. It doesn't want them to experience any discomfort. If they are afraid of possible failure, they're going to try to avoid you going down that path because it brings pain.

5:35.7

Your lower brain's only job is to protect you from death or from humiliation or something that's extremely painful for you and for you to be alive. That's pretty much its job. It's constantly looking for proof that you're not going to be safe from those things. Then it's going to try to persuade you to do the opposite.

5:54.7

What I see all too often is women step on the scale. The scale is not what they think it should be. Lower brain immediately kicks into high gear. Oh my gosh, here's proof we're not doing well. This isn't going according to plan. Maybe we should cut our losses now. Let's just eat the cake now because it seems so far away.
