Summary

The Asbury revival of early 2023 garnered a great deal of interest from Christians hungering for signs of hope. What’s happening there now? In the first part, Curtis talks with the President of Asbury University, Kevin Brown, to learn more about the experience itself and how the institution has sought to steward this outpouring of the Holy Spirit. In the second part, “founding friend” David French joins Curtis to reflect more deeply on how God works through revivals, drawing on Asbury, US history, and especially their shared experience of revival at Harvard in the 1990’s.

0:32.4	sense of today is the topic of revivals. And I was especially drawn to this topic because of all
0:39.7	the energy being placed on the asbury revival in the past several months. And it struck me that
0:46.9	one of the reasons why there was so much hunger and interest around the asbury revival is the
0:53.6	sense that in the world right now the church and the witness of the gospel feels like it's
0:59.4	struggling. And it needs the infusion of the Holy Spirit. We're struggling with political polarization,
1:05.9	issues of race, our youth deconstructing, and we can go on. And so I sense in myself, and in many of
1:13.9	my friends, a sense of like, oh, we need the power of this spirit. And so when we heard about this
1:19.8	revival happening on the asbury, I think there was this pent up energy and desire of I could
1:24.8	this be it, which makes it even more important for us than I think to make sense rightly of
1:33.1	revivals. What should we expect from it? And what shouldn't we expect from it? How do we make
1:38.8	proper sense of it? And that's what today's episode is trying to help us to do with the help of
1:44.0	some friends. And the first friend that's going to happen in two parts, the first friend that I'm
1:47.5	going to bring on is the president of asbury university, Kevin Brown to talk from on the ground,
1:53.2	reporting what's has happened, what's going on. And then I'll bring on founding friend David
1:58.0	French for us together to make sense of the asbury experience. And also our own personal experiences
