This is the good news of the gospel.

God made us, showed us how to live, but we chose our own way.

Our sins separated us from God. But God had a compassionate plan.

The father sent his son, Jesus, to restore all that was broken. We couldn't comprehend Jesus.

Or his supposed kingdom. His message was radical and offensive. So we killed him. But a greater

story was being told. The father placed the wrongdoings of the entire world, past, present,

and future on Jesus, making a way back to himself. Now, through Christ's death, burial, and resurrection, we are raised

to new life, free from all guilt and condemnation, as God is making all things new. His spirit

now lives in those who believe, to take his good news to all people, even to the ends of the earth.

This is the gospel.

As a young man, I had no peace

because I had a works-based understanding of salvation. I was trying to earn my way into heaven

by my good behavior. But I went to a summer camp and heard the gospel. God's word showed me

who I was in truth, a sinner in need of a Savior. So I put my trust in Jesus

and found freedom in Christ. Today's reading comes from Colossians, Chapter 1, verses 15 through 20.

He is the image of the invisible God, the first born over all creation.
