The House has passed a resolution to limit President Donald Trump's war powers in Iran.

The vote was 215 to 208, with some Republicans voting with Democrats.

It's a significant rebuke to Trump and how he's handled the conflict.

The vote must be approved by both chambers, but wouldn't go to Trump to be signed.

Earlier, House Speaker Mike Johnson defended several GOP lawmakers who opposed reigning

in Trump's war powers in Iran.

I think it is a very dangerous prospect to take away from the administration and the

commander-in commander chief right now

the ability to negotiate.

That's what this does.

It weakens us, our position and our leverage in negotiation on the peace in that situation.

Johnson claimed all U.S. objectives in Iran were, quote, achieved, despite some lawmakers,

including Republicans, expressing interest

in receiving further information from the administration.

Trump suggested the ceasefire between the U.S. and Tehran is still in place despite strikes

in the region, adding that negotiations are going, quote, very well.

In a New York Post interview, we'll touch more on later in the episode, Trump said Iran's supreme leader was involved in the talks to end the war

and that he had hoped to meet him, saying they, quote,

seem to be getting along quite well.

That's despite the Ayatollah not having been seen in public since the start of the war.
