The Mariners just made their biggest investment yet.

Colt Emerson is from Robert

Murray. Colt Emerson and the Seattle Mariners are an agreement on an eight-year $95 million contract

extension. That deal includes a ninth-year club option, a full no-trade clause and escalators that can

bring it north of $130 million.

From Spottrack, Colt Emerson's extension is the biggest ever given to a player before making their major league debut, which is also something I don't know.

Many people would have, you know, Seattle is the candidate for that, but welcome to the

Mariners with all these young exciting prospects,

this being their best.

We're going to go over a lot right now.

What it means for JP is probably the most common question a lot of people have, followed by,

well, when are we going to see Colt?

And we're going to cover all of it.

But let's start by a conversation with Justin Hollander that Wyman and Bob had.

This was from opening day about kind of finding space for Colt. I think that will be very easy to do if he's doing those things. There's never been a team in the history of baseball who say, yeah, we love to have you. We just have too many good players. Sorry. That just doesn't happen. So that'll work itself out over time. I'm very confident of that. Excuse me, Brock and Sock, not why I'm in and Bob, but with Brock and Salk. And I want to add that as context when I ask you, well, how do you balance having JP and Cole? I do want to provide the context of like, look, you play the guy that's great. Like, it's a good problem to have. We all know that. But that being said, when you saw this news, your first thought was of JP, right? Actually, it was Julio. Really? Because I remember how the reaction from people when they signed Julio pretty early. And people are, why are we paying them already? So that was my initial.

And then it went to JP. Okay. Because it's like, all right, well, what does that mean for my guy? He's a free agent after this year. Obviously, Colt Emerson is doing enough in spring training in the minors that they want to invest in them and lock them down early. Now, if I'm JP, I'm looking over my shoulder. like, all right, well, the writing's on the wall.
