Summary

Welcome to HOOVERING, the podcast about eating. Host, Jessica Fostekew (Guilty Feminist, Motherland) has a frank conversation with an interesting person about gobbling; guzzling; nibbling; scoffing; devouring and wolfing all up… or if you will, hoovering.

This week I’m joined by comedian who is none other than Zoe Ball’s new Agony Uncle on Sunday mornings on ITV – Stephen Bailey. You can catch him at the Soho Theatre if you’re London based, the first weekend in May.

I took Stephen for dinner in a particularly ‘characterful’ part of Llanelli, in Wales. We talk about those days where you’re like a bottomless pit on the food front; mental spinning instructors; fussiness; fasting and eating on first dates. All that, and it’s somehow quite a short episode.

Love this podcast. Support this show through the ACAST supporter feature. It's up to you how much you give and there's noiky. I love eating as much as anything else in the world. But also, it sometimes brings me conflict, shame and all sorts of other things that are rubbish. It's complicated and I think fascinating. This is a conversation with an interesting soul, not just about food, but about gobbling it up, or if you will, poof me.

Hello, full disclosure.

0:52.8

This episode is a first in that it was recorded out in the wild in a real-life restaurant. I saw that I had a gig in Chenelli, Wales, with the beautiful and hilarious comedian and presenter Stephen Bailey. Anyway, I looked up places to eat in Clenetli, and I found a Thai place called Bun May Thai with stunning trip advisor reviews.

1:15.9

So I asked Stephen to join me there and record this episode.

1:19.3

So I need to apologise now.

1:22.6

The sound quality is not ideal.

1:25.3

There is obviously some proper background noise and it's frankly fucking annoying

1:29.8

when other people are in the restaurant too. But what can you do? I've done my absolute best and you

1:34.9

can at least hear what we're saying and you do get used to it. I promise. Now as it turned out,

1:40.5

there's pictures in the podcast notes. The restaurant did end up being in quite an extremely run-down area.

1:45.9

But the restaurant, once inside, was neat, quirky and homely.
