Summary
Year two of homeschooling is officially in the books, and I'm sitting down for an honest recap of what worked, what didn't, and what I wish I had known sooner.
If you're considering homeschooling, preparing for your first year, or just curious what life actually looks like after the highlight reels, this episode offers a realistic look at the beauty and challenges of homeschooling life.
I share the biggest lessons from year two:
- Year one felt like survival, year two finally felt like life
- Every path has challenges, choose the hard that works best for your family
- Connection before curriculum, children learn best when they feel seen
- Homeschooling is growing everyone, not just the kids
- Many frustrations came from my own expectations trying to recreate traditional school at home
I also walk through our current daily rhythm, curriculum favorites, and how I address common fears about kids falling behind, socialization, and working while homeschooling.
After two years, one thing is clear: the girls are thriving, and so is our family. This episode is about letting go of perfection and embracing the messy, beautiful reality of learning together.

| 0:00.0 | Hello, welcome back to the speak easy. Today, it's just me and you, and we are going to recap year two of homeschooling. Now, admittedly, we're going to homeschool through |
| 0:24.2 | some of the summer. So it's not technically the end of the year, but it is the end of the school |
| 0:29.0 | year for a lot of people. So I thought this was a good time to do this. And it's also, I know |
| 0:33.8 | the time of year when a lot of people are considering homeschooling or they've made the |
| 0:38.3 | decision, but now the nerves start to set in. I will tell you, April, May of 2024, that fall was |
| 0:46.3 | when we pulled the girls. I had so much anxiety. I actually thought I was ill at one point. I was so |
| 0:53.2 | anxious because you're walking into the great unknown. And so I |
| 0:57.4 | thought this would be helpful. I'm going to kind of recap our year and then I had opened up a |
| 1:02.1 | question box on my stories and I'm going to answer the most reoccurring ones at the end. But I will |
| 1:08.7 | tell you this with confidence year two was so much better than year one. |
| 1:13.6 | I remember somebody telling me year one is survival. |
| 1:16.6 | Year two, it starts to feel like real life, like you're actually doing it. |
| 1:21.0 | And I think that is so accurate. |
| 1:23.3 | There were honestly a lot of moments in year one that I wanted to kind of throw in the towel. |
| 1:29.2 | I was like, this is actually too hard. |
| 1:31.3 | And we can't figure each other out. |
| 1:33.2 | And I don't think we can do this. |
| 1:34.6 | But I am so thankful that we push through. |
| 1:39.2 | Because year two has been so much better. |
| 1:41.7 | Not without its hard stuff and its hard moments, |
| 1:44.6 | but, you know, obviously this time of year, |
| 1:47.9 | people are asking, like, how is it gone? |
