This week, Dan and Becky Allender continue their conversation about the holidays by discussing

the deep sense of disappointment that so often leads to conflict. When nostalgia for an

idealized past sets us up for disappointment, how can we move forward

in a way that honors the past and brings deeper goodness to the present?

Well, we're returning to the category of holidays, and I get to be with my beloved,

on my holiday, let alone now. And so, Becky, as we talk about the issue of nostalgia,

we're talking about the fact that nostalgia is a kind of bittersweet desire to return to home,

or in this case, memories that tend to erase some of the particular disappointments and heartaches

that indeed were always part of those events.

But that 10,000, 20,000 foot flyover allows us to sort of comprise

probably a lot of events into a sort of a single glorious picture of what we wanted and
