Everyone loves a good story and a good storyteller.

But there is no storyteller like the Lord Jesus,

and there are no greater stories told than the ones Jesus shared.

In this study, spiritual stories, we consider the parables Jesus told and their

application to us. These are truly the greatest stories ever told, and the Lord has something

he wants to say to you through them. Let's join Scott Pauley now.

Martin Luther and his wife, Kate, very frequently, daily, really, had guests in their home.

And they would sit around at a table at mealtime, and Martin Luther would talk would talk and over the years people who sat there started making notes of all the rich wonderful things he was discussing

and it became a very famous book called Table Talk. You can find a copy of it and read it.

It's really fascinating. There's something about sitting around a table that people open up, and they start to just bear their heart.

There's real fellowship that takes place around a table.

We have come to one of those tables now, and it is not just any table.

It is a table our Lord Jesus is sitting at, and he's the one doing the talking.

We've come to Luke chapter number 14.

There are actually six different parables in Luke chapter number 14. Five of them are really

unique to Luke's record, but all of them are table talk by the Lord Jesus. He has gone to a certain house.

He's being offered hospitality in the house of a Pharisee, of all things.

And sitting around the table, he just begins to talk.

And he uses the table really as an analogy for so much truth.

Let's look at the first one today in Luke chapter 14, beginning in verse number seven,

and he put forth a parable to those which were bidden when he marked how they chose out the

chief rooms, saying unto them, when thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down
