Professor, a very good evening to you. Your essay at Civitas Outlook, part of Civitas Institute,

is highly entertaining, at the same time revelatory of these last decades that I've lived through

with the word conservatism floating all around me. I used to be so frustrated with my

understanding that I would say, Republican, okay? No modifier, Republican. But that's not adequate to the

years we pass through in the presidential epochs. And we're now in an unusual epoch, we'd have to

say the least, for Republican presidents.

However, to begin at the beginning, you identify three strands of conservatism in America based upon

what should have to say, opera, the Puritan, the pioneer, and the robber baron.

Let's begin with a Puritan.
