I'd have no idea why they did this experiment but when they hook up a stimulus to

rats lateral hypotheramus and they give it a lever that will stimulate that region of the brain,

rats will keep pushing the lever until they literally collapse.

In case you're wondering what that area of the brain is that's known as also the ventral tegmental,

but what it really is is the area of your brain that triggers the release of dopamine.

Dopamine is the excitary, fixated, driven search,

I need something.

I'm on a campaign to get something,

neurotransmitter.

Neurotransmitters, by the way, work on your nervous system.

Hormones work on your glands.

So that's just the basic difference,

but all the important, most of the important

transmitters have their hormone variation to them. So when dopamine is triggered, it creates an excitement and a sense of reward that encourages us to proceed.

It's definitely triggered by any activity that offers any kind of a reward,
