| 0:30.0 | My friends, welcome and happy to be here with you and to greet you at my delight that we have this time together. |
| 0:45.0 | And so there is a saying about mindfulness. |
| 0:57.0 | That is, mindfulness is easy. |
| 1:03.0 | Remembering to do it is difficult. |
| 1:06.0 | So the act of mindfulness in of itself is meant to be phenomenally simple. |
| 1:13.0 | So simple, it's sometimes hard to trust it. |
| 1:16.0 | So simple that it's maybe hard to remember to do it. |
| 1:22.0 | And a lot of the practice is remembering and coming back and coming back. |
| 1:30.0 | And at some point in the history of Buddhism, the word Sati, translate as mindfulness, was understood to be remembering. |
| 1:40.0 | It has related to the word memory or remembering. |
| 1:44.0 | So part of it is to remember to do it. |
| 1:48.0 | And because it's so difficult to remember, the mind wanders off, it gets caught up and thinking a lot. |
| 1:55.0 | Then there's a second practice that we can do that helps us to keep us in the flow of mindfulness. |
| 2:09.0 | It's also a way of protecting ourselves. |
| 2:12.0 | Mindfulness is meant to be protective so that we're protected from picking up thoughts and impulses and motivations, attitudes, which are harmful for ourselves or harmful for others. |
| 2:30.0 | And it protects others, it protects ourselves. |
| 2:33.0 | And so this is not picking up. |
| 2:36.0 | Sometimes, whenever happens, whenever you notice you're not being clearly mindful in the present moment, |
| 2:47.0 | but you're kind of leaning into or getting involved in or picked up in anything else, let go of it. |
| 2:56.0 | Or if you see it arising, don't pick it up, let it be. |
