I'm Gianna Jalosi with your Fox True Crime Minute. One of New York City's most notorious serial killers has confessed to another murder.

Police in New Jersey announcing Richard Cottingham known as the torso killer, admitting to killing Alice Everhart in 1965.

The 18-year-old nursing student was stabbed and bludgeoned to death at her family's home in Fairlawn, New Jersey.

The case went cold for decades, but was reopened in 2021, and through countless interviews over

several years, extracted a full confession from Cottingham, including details that were never publicly

known. Cottingham, now 79 years old, killed women and girls in the New York City area and got the

nickname of the torso killer because he was known for dismembering

his victims. Cottingham has claimed responsibility for up to 100 homicides going back to the 60s.

Though authorities in New York and New Jersey have officially linked him to about a dozen,

he's been convicted in five cases and has been in custody since 1980 and is serving three life
