A man on Long Island, New York is accused of lying in wait at his estranged wife's home before killing her with a lethal cyanide mix that seared her lungs.

Prosecutors in Nassau County, New York, say 53-year-old Asif Qureshi, busted into his former home after his estranged wife, Alina, left to drop the couple's kids off at school on October 17th.

When she returned, they say he jumped from the shadows and suffocated her by putting a rag soaked in cyanide to her mouth,

searing her lungs as she took her last breaths.

The prosecutors then says Koreshi left her body out for the children to discover.

The couple's 17-year-old daughter received a phone call that afternoon telling her, her mother never picked up her little sister from school, sending cops to the family home. Police tied Qureshi to the scene thanks to surveillance video, and he was arrested October 23rd. Last week, he pleaded not guilty to the murder. He'll be back in court February 18th.
