What's up everyone? Welcome back. Kevin here. Hope your garden is doing well and just

producing like crazy as we move into the fall. And so today I wanted to talk about something that hopefully some of

you can experiment with and this would be rooftop gardening or rooftop deck or

balcony gardening but specifically some of the challenges of growing on a rooftop, which, you know, you wouldn't think there are that many. It's just, why don't I just put a bucket on the rooftop and grow there. Yeah, 100% you can do that.

But the simple fact is that most rooftops

are not designed to grow plants,

and certainly not designed to house tons of soil and water, irrigation systems, you know,

heavy, heavy pieces of equipment, right?

And so I just wanted to talk a little bit about how to know if it's even possible to grow on your particular roof.

And so let's talk first about the structural integrity of the roof.

Roves are designed to keep things off of our heads,

not to put extra things on top of our heads.

Not to say that they can't, but when you're thinking about growing on a roof you

definitely have to think about a few different pieces of info right so the first

thing is going to be your load capacity and there's two different types right you have your dead load

capacity that's just the load of everything that's already on the roof

including like your

containers and your soil, right? The live load capacity is something like the people that might be on your roof.

How many people can be on that roof without it sort of crashing down and

ruining your life.

Then you have all your different areas of access
