Hey, good morning. It's Sunday, October the 5th, day five of the government shutdown,

though no inroads have been made between the two parties. The Senate will gavel into session

at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, at which point they will call a vote for a continuing resolution,

which would temporarily fund the government

at current levels for a seven-week period. As of now, we have no indication that that continuing

resolution will pass. It's failed on the Senate floor four times already. Although three Democrats

or independents, Catherine Cortez Mastow, John Federman, and Angus King did support the continuing

resolution. One Republican

Senator Rand Paul voted against the Stop Gap funding bill. Democratic leadership is insisting

the rest of their votes could come if the GOP agrees to extend Affordable Care Act subsidies

that expire at the end of this year. Senator Gene Shaheen of New Hampshire said that

without those subsidies, people could see their health care premiums double. Republican leadership,

meanwhile, insists there's, quote, nothing to negotiate, and that Democrats should pass the

stop-get funding measure and negotiate about health care later once Congress is back.

Meanwhile, far from working to end the shutdown,

Donald Trump is using it as an excuse to ramp up his slash and burn cuts to the government.

His administration has frozen federal funding for transit projects in Chicago and New York,

and billions of dollars in green energy funding was yanked from more than a dozen states

where voters have elected

Democratic leaders. But as House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries told me yesterday, President

Trump has been erratically cutting government anyway. Donald Trump, Russ Vote, and this malignant
