The Big Beautiful Bill.

I welcome Veronique de Reggie of the Mercatus Center,

writing a creator syndicate about the big, beautiful bill and,

Veronika, a very good evening to you, the line that most attracted me in your new column about the

BBB, whatever blip in the growth rate we will see thanks to the big, beautiful bill,

it won't compensate for the damage done by the Trump administration's

ongoing trade wars. Is that fact available to members of Congress who are now debating the

big beautiful bill? Do they understand that they're spending their time on something that's

where you call it a blip? I don't even think it'll be a footnote when we

look back to these tariff moments. Good evening to you. Good evening, John. Oh, I'm sure I'm sure they

know, but, you know, I mean, they're telling themselves that a blip is better than no blip,

and it is true that if they let the tax cut expire, that if they don't find a deal to make, then a lot of

Americans are going to face massive tax increases.

The reason why I was writing this piece was because you hear a lot of talks.

For instance, Secretary of Treasury Bessent yesterday was testifying before

Congress and talking about the enormous pro-growth aspect of this bill. It's not. It really is not.

It's just it's, it's maybe at most 0.5% in the long term, 0.8%.

It depends on who you look at.

And all the other, I'm sorry to say, all the other estimates that are more than this

are just fensiful.
