and we're very pleased to welcome Stephen Miller, a research fellow for the Council for a Secure America.

Stephen, the Gaza conflict remains unsolved. So far as the hostages families and the state of Israel is concerned, the number, thanks to you,

you've given me most accurately, 53, still unaccounted for, perhaps half of them alive.

The conversation continues for weeks on edge and, and there's always this periodic, we're close

to a deal, and then it falls apart so i'll

get to it if the hamas gives up the hostages is that their last piece of leverage are they then

for the dustbin of history uh no uh they are not because hamas is an ideology that is deeply ingrained in the Gazan culture. Remember, they have ruled with an iron fist, in essence, for 20 years over the Gaza Strip. Removing the hostages, sorry, removing, rescuing and releasing the

hostages is the first step. The second step must be ensuring that Hamas has, does not have

the military capability to act on its ideology, which is the complete destruction

of the state of Israel and the complete genocide of the Jewish people.

So the hostages are a very important first step.

But unfortunately, if Hamas remains in power in Gaza and Hamas retains its military capability,

we would only expect history to repeat itself and another October 7th to happen again.
