This is CBSI on the world. I'm John Batchler. Jeff Bliss's Pacific Watch,

and another special report from Jeff because of the fires not only of Los Angeles,

but now we're looking at the whole of the southern part of California with fires here and

there, the wind still blowing. I mentioned there are other crises in the world,

and this special report is part of the show tonight. I begin by talking very carefully about

Ukraine and the remarks by President Trump to say that you either make a deal with me or the sanctions are going to be extremely tough to Putin.

Doesn't sound like he's going to settle in a day.

At the same time, Mr. Trump made an exciting address remotely at Davos, in which he made it very clear to everyone that the U.S. is going to act in its self-interest.

Shocking that he had to say it, but it was upsetting to the audience because they presume the worst.

And then we turn to Israel, several reports from Israel about the ceasefire in Gaza, which I repeat, no one in an authority in Israel or no one sympathetic to the authorities in Israel here, the philanthropists, for example, believes the ceasefire will last.

What they're looking for is for the first phase to get as many of the living hostages out.

I learned that the hostages have been kept these many months in a shelter built by and for

UNRRA. And part of the conversation today was what is to be done with UNRWA, certainly not to permit it back into the Gaza Strip.

That opens the question of who's going to govern the Gaza Strip.

Hamas has ruled out.

Hamas, however, is going to have returning hotheads, some several hundred killers out of the Israeli jails, Hamas, grown-ups,

and what's left of Gaza now is going to fall into their hands. Remember, this is rule of gun.

I also have a conversation about Europe with several European actors. The debate momentarily is a European army.

That's right. You've heard that.

A European military.

Zelensky asked for 200,000, they'll accept 50,000.

They sometimes call them peacekeepers.
