Summary

Romans 9:14-18 - What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God's part? By no means! 15 For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” 16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion but on God, who has mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” 18 So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills.

Hello my friends and welcome back to the morning night said I hope you were doing well this morning and I hope you are doing well this morning and I hope you are ready to get your minds

0:10.3

Align with the truth of God, do we have a doozy today

0:13.8

that we're trying to get our minds aligned with?

0:16.1

God has revealed some staggeringly important

0:20.1

but very difficult things for us as free thinking and choosing human beings to grasp.

0:28.0

Because he's telling us that as free thinking as we are and as able to choose as we are, we are not the ultimate authority.

0:38.7

We don't get the final say.

0:41.7

And I think when I say it that way, all of us in our heart of hearts and in our minds

0:45.8

which is kind of not our heads and go, well yeah, of course, we are human beings, we are

0:49.9

sinful, we don't do everything perfectly, we don't understand at all. Of course, we don't get the final say.

0:56.0

Yet, when passages like the one before us today come to our attention, we kind of kick and scream. We don't like that we don't get the

1:05.0

final say because there's something about it that kind of goes against the

1:09.1

grain of our independence. And independence in one sense is a good thing but independence in the sense

1:17.5

that it causes us to kick against God's command and God's decree of what is right is not a good thing.

1:25.5

That's really what happened back in the Garden of Eden.

1:28.0

Adam and Eve signed their own personal declarations of independence and said, I'm going to be independent of God. You see my friends that is the root of sin.

1:36.5

It's human insistence that we have a choice to go different from the way God wants us to go. And that rebellion, that

1:46.9

willingness to go against what God says is where sin comes about.

1:53.0

And today, Paul is explaining to us

1:57.0

why Israel is not the chosen people of God.

2:01.0

And when I say Israel, I mean the flesh and blood descendants of Abraham.

2:08.0

Paul is revealed that it's those who believe in God's promises like Abraham did who are the children of God
