Summary
A difficult medium mountain day with a tough 4.3km 9.5% finish to the stage amidst atrocious conditions. A nightmare for a GC man hiding weak legs and perhaps an opportunity for a large break to form with the maglia rosa up for grabs. Chaotic coverage and some cracks in the GC men were the story of the day.

| 0:00.0 | Welcome back to the Lantern Rouge Cycling Podcast, supported by Le Colneau Benji Nice |
| 0:05.2 | and with us today he's got unavoidable work commitments. |
| 0:09.9 | Unfortunately, it'll just be me free styling and I must admit it is a bit weird to be doing |
| 0:15.5 | it solo. |
| 0:16.5 | Today was stage 4 from Pierre Chenza to assess to a 187 kilometers long. |
| 0:22.2 | It was supposed to be the medium mountain chaotic stage to spice up the third week. |
| 0:28.8 | Last year they had Etna on stage 3 to try and spice up the GC action this year. |
| 0:34.2 | This is the hardest stage we've had to date. |
| 0:36.2 | I think about 3,000 meters of climbing, maybe a touch over, flat for the first 80k's, allowing |
| 0:42.3 | a large break to form then rolling climbs of between 10 and 25 minutes and then the finale |
| 0:51.0 | is the Colneau Paserino which is actually quite difficult, more difficult than perhaps |
| 0:55.0 | I intimated on the podcast yesterday. |
| 0:58.2 | It's 4.3k's, 9.5% but it's difficult at the start. |
| 1:03.2 | There's I think from 500 meters in to 2km in the average is about 11.11.5% with some steep |
| 1:10.2 | pitches, levels off the end and then the last 2km or so, 2.5 are a ridge line to the finish |
| 1:18.2 | flat-ish. |
| 1:19.2 | So not a pure mountain top or hill top finish which meant that Benji and I thought there'd |
| 1:23.9 | be a break today. |
| 1:25.1 | And there was, combined, the profile not really offering too much for GC contenders in terms |
| 1:31.1 | of big time gaps because it's not that long a climb at the end and not a pure mountain |
| 1:36.0 | top finish, combined that with the atrocious weather we had today. |
| 1:41.6 | And I mean, well, actually wasn't that bad, I mean La Flam Rouge, they got Italian people |
