Summary
The first sprint stage of this year's Giro d'Italia, with Dylan Groenewegen, Caleb Ewan, Peter Sagan, Tim Merlier, Nizzolo and Viviani all lining up for the stage honours. A stacked field, just missing Bennett, WVA and Ackermann and a tricky finish with an S bend in the final 600m and a gently curving right hand bend to finish it off. Positioning would be important as well as having a clear run to the line on the right hand barrier.

| 0:00.0 | Welcome back to the Lantern Rouge Cycling Podcast, support a Biola Cole here today with Benji |
| 0:05.8 | Naisen on our Sunday. We just watched an enthralling zero stage to flat stage, 179 Ks from Stupenegee |
| 0:14.7 | to Navira and the story of this stage was the peloton trying their best not to catch the breakway |
| 0:22.6 | as late as possible. They did this stage 41 Ks an hour average. I think they finished 20 minutes |
| 0:32.0 | after they were supposed to as well. This is a late one unbelievable. Let's get into it Benji. |
| 0:39.4 | I think there was one note you wanted to make before we kicked off the stage recap. |
| 0:45.0 | Yes indeed. Today's stage was arguably quite special at the start because it's been I think 10 |
| 0:50.9 | years on the day since it's about to rain on unfortunately passed away on that descent crash |
| 0:56.7 | in one of the stage in the 02011 and he had won a stage the year before that so pretty sad to lose |
| 1:03.6 | a guy like that and they remembered that at the start of the stage so let this spot be in memory |
| 1:09.5 | of him as well I guess. Very sad what happened with Wild for Whale and yes nice that they still don't |
| 1:16.4 | have his number used in the juridotalia so every year they don't use his number one oh eight but |
| 1:25.2 | onto the stage the obligatory breakaway with three riders Albanese from Yolo Kameshara I think |
| 1:32.6 | Tuptee, Blue Mountains Jersey, he won that sprint and then it was basically Thomas de Hent |
| 1:38.4 | and Alperson and Ineos pacing with de Hent telling them stop chasing the break back too quickly |
| 1:44.5 | because they had a minute and a half with 90 case to go and let it go back out they eventually let |
| 1:50.5 | them take the or then Albanese had a mechanical then it was two in the break then they go to the |
| 1:56.0 | first intermediate sprint which is just jiklimino points not bonification they the first two in the |
| 2:02.1 | break mop that up and then there was a bit of chaos behind because once again just like in |
| 2:07.9 | Torreno Antriotico the sprinters in the group behind didn't know where the line was because I think |
| 2:12.6 | they had the 40 case to go banner and then the intermediate sprint was just afterwards and |
| 2:19.4 | Gaviria figured it out first and when it got those extra points he even told Viviani it's again |
