The 1980. A young boy called Danny stood in his bathroom, talking to Tony, the little boy who lives in his head.

They're talking about Danny's dad moving him and his family to an isolated hotel in the mountains called the Overlook.

Tony isn't keen on moving to the hotel.

He thinks there's something bad there.

Danny asks him why so Tony shows him.

Danny sees a strange queasy mix of images flash into his head just like pictures in a book. a The Red Rum scrawled in blood.

He sees two little girls stood side by side staring right back at him, and he sees a pair of

elevator doors open and a tidal wave of blood pour out drenching everything in sight.

It's been nearly 40 years since Stanley Kubrick made the shining and audiences first saw

these strange images on the big screen and yet they still feel as shocking, disorientating and

unique as ever.

Cubric had already pushed what was possible on screen with visionary movies like 2001

and had sparked shock, outrage and controversy with movies like a Clockwork Orange. But when he decided to make his own genre movie, a haunted house movie based on a Stephen King novel, he somehow managed to make the most iconic, most puzzling, and most debated over horror movie in all of cinema history.

One that fans still discuss, still analyze, still argue over and are still traumatized by today. still as we continue exploring the evolution of the ghost story and try and unpick the

labyrinthine puzzle box that is Stanley Kubrick's The Shining.
