The 1979 Ameterville. A priest stands in an upstairs bedroom of an old house, a house with bad memories.

Memories of a murder.

As he begins to bless the house, he notices a strange, pungent smell emanating from somewhere, and a couple of flies buzzing round his head.

Soon enough, a few more flies appear, then a few more, then a few more. The priest begins to panic he's choking

unable to breathe. Suddenly the bedroom door swings open and a bellowing voice

shouts, It's a tale that feels as old as time.

A family move into a house with a bad history.

Queue the strange noises, the bad smells, the cold spots, the demonic activity.

But it was two movies made in the late 70s released one year apart, both supposedly based

on real life cases that created these cliches and cemented the template

for what we now know as the modern American haunted house movie. Two Modern American Hauntings, the Changeling and the Amitaville Horror.

American haunted house movies back to back. The Ameterville horror from 1979 and the
