| 0:00.0 | that the sun goes along and it's on you for a very short period. |
| 0:03.0 | And while that sun's on you, your job is to make the next generation slightly easier. |
| 0:07.0 | To be a good ancestor. |
| 0:09.0 | And every day I try and get up and just be a good ancestor and live our principles. |
| 0:12.0 | Whatever you put out in the world, do it with kindness, do it with impact, right? |
| 0:17.0 | Yeah, exactly. And how do you make the world a little bit better? |
| 0:19.0 | Hi, I'm Nick Foster and I'm a general manager for Mars Pet Nutrition. |
| 0:22.6 | We are the world's largest pet care provider and my job is to run the pet food business in Northern Europe. |
| 0:27.6 | We employ 100,000 people worldwide and this is my Deauvote. |
| 0:31.6 | Did you ever believe that you would still be at Mars when you joined 20 years ago? I never was going to go into business ever. It was never my thing. I grew up in Lincolnshire and there's a lot of REF bases around in Lincolnshire. I always was going to go on the REF. I was in the cadets when I was younger, you know, doing all that stuff. Where did you go next? I bumped into these people from Mars and I thought, wow, they are really normal people. And I thought, well, if I was going to work for any company, it would be a company like that after I'd done some research. And I applied and they offered me a job and I was still going to try and join the RAF. And I remember going back to my dad and he said, well, you know, do the Mars thing. If you don't like it, the RF will still be there in a year's time. and that was nearly 20 years ago. There's so much purpose behind the brand isn't there? The pet care purpose is to make a better world for pets. And as I said, we know they make a better world for us and they can't speak. So it's our responsibility to make a better world for them. I'm really proud every day to get up and live that purpose and be a good ancestor for the next generation of leaders that come after me. What's your duvet? What gives you out of bed in the morning to flip the dovet? That's a really good question. Hi, I'm Nick Foster and I'm a general manager for Mars Pet Nutrition. Just before sitting down with Jack, I'm a little bit nervous. I'm most excited to talk about today about how people can get into the world of business and people really understanding what business is about. I wanted to come on my duvet because I find the topic super inspirational and I think there's a lot of young people out there that just need a bit of help finding the thing that get up in the morning and flip their duvet. I'm most excited to talk to the young people about how they can work for a business that has impact and generally make the world a bit better every day. |
| 2:07.6 | Hey Jack, lovely to be here. Let's do this. |
| 2:10.6 | So Nick, welcome to my duvet flip. How are we? |
| 2:13.6 | I have a great, thank you, Jack. It's really lovely to be here. Yeah, thanks for having me. |

| 2:20.3 | Yep. |
| 2:21.3 | Your journey into where you're currently working and the world of pet care and everything in between. |
| 2:29.3 | But I want to start here. |
| 2:30.3 | Tell me a little bit about where the world of work started for your first job. |
| 2:33.3 | What was you doing? And I want to take you down memory lane a little bit. Okay. Like what would |
| 2:39.0 | you be saying to young Nick now if you were speaking to him? Yeah, so my first proper job was, |
| 2:45.4 | after being a paper boy, was working at McDonald's. So I worked at the fast food restaurant. And I |
| 2:50.3 | loved it, actually. There was loads of people, similar age, similar outlook on life, working, you know, really hard when they were there, but also creating friendships outside of work. And, you know, I really thought it was a good step into work. You know, it taught you the basic stuff of doing things well, you know, turning up on time, working hard, work ethics really important, doing a good quality job for the people that you're serving. So yeah, I really, really enjoyed it. It was a good trip for me. And those basics turning up on time, working hard, are so important, right? Yeah, completely, yeah. Yeah, I mean, they set the foundation for a successful career. If you don't have those things in the first place, |
