CVS I in the world. I'm John Bachelor. I welcome Jonathan Shenzer, the Vice President of the Foundation for Defense of democracies, who's guiding me into and

out of the tangled that is Gaza.

There are many neighborhoods I'm learning, some that I did not know existed and what is consistent these last days watching the news

out of the Times Visitor on the Jerusalem Post and Reuters is that the IDF is operating in parts of Gaza that I presumed either in ruins and

cleared of people or in some fashion secure.

That turns out not to be the case and perhaps it's the logic of the tunnels and that you're fighting an

enemy that looks like a civilian until he isn't.

The number of neighborhoods in Gaza in this small piece of territory seem to be redoubling.

What are these neighborhoods, what are these neighborhoods represent when all of a sudden the IDF has to go back in again?

You know, this is not a surprise. This is a small territory that Israel is operating in and that

Hamas is operating in someone described it to me in Israel some months ago as if you sort of are squeeging water on a floor, the water will move from one place to another.

And perhaps some of it may dry up, but you're going to have to keep moving water around.

That's kind of what's happening here.

The Hamas is moving to where Israel isn't fighting and it is regrouping and so we've seen battles in Shugaya which is in northern Gaza which we all thought at one point was fully conquered but the Israelis can't maintain military presence in every one of the places that they secured.

So we see Hamas moving around from one space to another.

Another area that they have reportedly moved to is Moassee, which is an area along the western coast, a sandy plot of beach in central southern Gaza.

These are areas that, again, Israel has controlled at different points

and now they're being forced to battle. But I think the broader story, John, is that Israel appears to be content to perhaps declare an end to major combat operations.
