Famine has officially hit Gaza. That's according to a report by a UN-backed initiative,

which warns starvation and hunger have taken hold in parts of the territory, and the situation

will likely worsen as Israel prepares its military

offensive in Gaza City.

Here's CNN's Nader Bashir.

This really echoes the warnings that we've been hearing from humanitarian organizations

for some time now that there simply is not enough humanitarian aid being allowed to get into

the Gaza Strip, not enough food supplies being allowed in. And we have seen those devastating images of emaciated civilians, children who are suffering from acute malnutrition.

Now, we have had a response from the Israeli authorities who have said that the report, in their words, is false and relies on partial biased data and superficial information

originating from Hamas, a terrorist organization.

We're a week on from President Donald Trump's summit with Russia's President Vladimir Putin in Alaska,

and there's very few signs of progress towards ending the war in Ukraine.

Yesterday, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov criticized Ukraine's efforts to obtain security

guarantees from the US and Europe without Russia taking part.

And that's as Ukrainian authorities say four people have died from Russian attacks in the

last 24 hours, leading to this comment from Ukraine's president, Lodomir Zelenskyy, Right now, the signals from Russia are frankly obscene.

They're trying to wriggle out of the need to hold a meeting.

They do not want to end this war.

Meanwhile, on an interview with the BBC, the European Union's top diplomat, Kaya Kallas,

said Putin, quote, achieved what he wanted
