Famine has been confirmed in Gaza City.

A UN-backed initiative made the announcement a short time ago,

and it expects it to expand to other parts of territory.

This comes as reports of hunger and starvation have been coming in for weeks.

Meanwhile, Palestinian authorities are warning that an invasion of Gaza city will be a death

sentence for the displaced 1.2 million people now living there.

The Ministry of Interior and National Security in Gaza called the plan a flagrant war crime

and would only lead to quote, further horrific massacres.

Yesterday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced he had ordered negotiations

to release the hostages held by Hamas, but also said he'd approved plans for a military

takeover of Gaza City.

The Israeli military says it has started warning aid groups about the impending mass evacuation

and displacement of the Palestinian people.
