There's been a major escalation in the war in Gaza, as Israel says it has launched a ground

incursion into Gaza City. The move has been anticipated for weeks and sparked huge international

condemnation, with the UN warning at risk forcibly displacing about one million Palestinians,

while the UN's Children Agency, UNICEF, said today that 450,000 children in the city

are, quote, traumatized and exhausted without aid or medical care.

CNN has spoken to residents in the city, who described a night of intense airstrikes.

We don't know what to do.

These are the extremely harsh conditions in which we are living.

Their aim is to terrorize and intimidate people and force them to move south and evacuate Gaza City so they can destroy it.

Hamas has called the expanded operation, quote, unprecedented and barbaric.

And all of this comes as an independent UN inquiry has concluded that Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza,

a claim the Israeli government firmly denies.
