Last time I saw director Gary Ross.

He was here for his film, Seabiscuit, which he wrote, directed and produced.

He's also here for his film, Pleasantville.

He hasn't made a movie, a live action film in almost 10 years.

He's back with an adaptation of the novel The Hunger Games.

Good to see you, Gary. Welcome back. Nice to be back. Good to see you again. And we talked about this a little bit just before we got started, but you are really attracted to

how anarchy is at the heart of drama. I mean, even when you do comedy, things like Dave and

big, there's anarchy at the center of those movies. Well, I don't know if it's anarchy,

but I think I'm interested in what appear to be

closely knitted conventional morality or institutions that really are a lot more tenuous than they seem.

You know, it's also about a little bit about the 99 and the 1%, you know, when that much power is

vested in a select few, and they're trying to knit a culture together

in a way that's sort of devoid of consensus or ethics, that that's going to be tenuous

and that's going to fray.
