Hey, my friends, Matt, this is the 10-minute Bible Hour podcast, and we continue to be in the home stretch of Galatians. We're in Paul's closing arguments. It's not even really closing arguments. It's like a resummarization, a highlighting of all of the important stuff from this book that we have now spent 272 going on, 273 episodes working on without apology, I might add.

0:41.4

And in these closing remarks, Paul is alluding back to a bunch of stuff that you and I took a

0:47.2

whole bunch of time if you've done this whole season with me to think about as it came up.

0:51.6

And this next little bit that we're getting here, this on my list,

0:54.8

this would be like the fourth point of emphasis or reminder that he's making at the end here.

0:58.7

This next one on this list does the same thing. It's going to take us back to a passage from

1:04.3

150 or so episodes ago. And, well, let me just tell you what I'm talking about right here.

1:10.5

Paul, in his closing summary, says here in Galatian 611, see what large letters I use as I write to you with my own hand. So there we get point number one of Paul's summary. That is, I'm Paul and I wrote it. And point number two is implicit, which is, it matters that Paul wrote it. I'm speaking with authority. He goes on to write in verse 12. Those who want to make a good

1:28.1

impression outwardly are trying to compel you to be circumcised. The only reason they do this is to avoid

1:32.3

being persecuted for the cross of Christ. Not even those who were circumcised obey the law, yet they

1:36.8

want you to be circumcised that they may boast about your flesh. Yesterday, we talked about a third

1:42.1

summary point that Paul is making here, which is speaking with the authority of the church, I condemn the teachings of the Judaizers. They are wrong. I am giving you the teachings of Jesus. Jesus' disciples agree with me on this. Here is truth. They are teaching falsehood. Don't integrate what they're saying at all.

2:03.3

But also in this little passage, we get some nods to what exactly they were getting wrong.

2:08.8

What exactly are we speaking to? If you just go pick up a study Bible or something and you thumb to

2:14.2

the first page of a given study Bible and you're like, well, what's the point of this book of the Bible?

2:19.1

And you go to Galatians.

2:20.4

You're generally going to see something that's like, this is about faith versus works.

2:25.3

That's the point of Galatians.

2:27.3

And I think you and I have spent enough time on this book to say, is that the point of Galatians? I think rather it'd be better to say it's

2:39.6

a point of the book of Galatians. Clearly there was a tension here between people who thought that

2:46.8

the way to write standing with God was by going way harder on the law of Moses from the

2:52.5

Old Testament. If Moses said to get circumcised once, why do we get circumcised twice? I don't know that
