General Motors created a new business unit last month called GM Energy, a development that's perhaps

one of the more underappreciated in recent months.

Jim Energy is utilizing the company's Altium Battery technology to provide a range of new services

that combined really push forward the idea of using vehicles themselves as power sources for homes, businesses, and even pushing power back to the grid.

We're going to dive into the details in a minute. But it's important because GM's the first automaker

really challenged Tesla's Powerwall and PowerPacked products.

And I've been left wondering what took so long? GM energy is important for another reason. It's a great

example of an automaker thinking beyond the vehicle itself and in this case
