We are in First Kings chapter five, and we're

going to finish out the chapter today, verses 13 through 18, Lord willing. There's a great

statement I heard years ago. Don't remember who said it, but here's the way it goes. Greatness is in the preparation.

And that's really a, it's a deep statement. Greatness is in the preparation. We often look at

the finished product, whether that be an athlete running race or a chef's carefully prepared meal or a beautiful

building or a painting. And we say, wow, that's great. And it is. It's the, but it's the sum total

of a lot of great things that led up to it, the time, the hours. I was reading

just the other day that Kobe Bryant, the famous basketball player, used to shoot 2,000 shots a day.

That's a lot of basketball shots to develop himself to be a great ballplayer. The average

violin virtuoso spends three to five hours a day practicing all of those years. That compounded

interest of preparation brings greatness. So greatness really is in the preparation. And think of this.

When it comes down to the performance, whether that be an actor on the stage or an athlete on

the court, when it comes down to the actual performance, everybody wants to give us best.
