five today, First Kings chapter five, talking about the good, the bad, and the ugly.

And we've talked a lot about the good. Solomon's having a good start to his ministry, making

some wise decisions when it comes to government and governmental leaders. And even today, as he

prepares for the building of the temple, really, really good decisions. And yet it's not the way we

start that is a good commentary on our lives.

It's the way that we finish. And Solomon's going to have some pretty big missteps here

in just a few chapters, unfortunately. But all things are written in the Bible for our benefit,

them, that we through patience and comfort might have hope, the Apostle Paul taught us in

Romans 15. So here we are in 1st Kings 5, and as I already said, Solomon's getting ready

to do the biggest project of his life, to build the most beautiful

building in the world, and that is the great Solomonic temple. As you recall, his dad, David,

was not permitted by the Lord to build the temple. God had told David, David, you're a man of war.
