Zoos around the country are on high alert.

As the bird flu continues to ravage flocks of chickens and turkeys around America,

many zoos have been creating social distancing programs for their birds

in an effort to protect them from the virus.

Some zoos shut down the bird exhibits entirely and moved their birds indoor, while others

limited outdoor time and created smaller, isolated spaces for the birds, but now the U.S.

Department of Agriculture has reported that two zoos in America have confirmed cases of avian flu. They have not revealed the types of

birds to contract the virus or which zoos reported the cases, and thankfully at the moment,

they are not ordering widespread euthanasia for the zoos. When a facility with flocks of chickens or

turkeys contracts the virus, the entire flock is usually put down. That outcome is heartbreaking

on its own and adds to the current problem of inflation since the price of chicken, turkey, and

eggs continues to rise as more flocks disappear. But the problem is especially scary for zoos
