The suspected shooter who opened fire at the U.S. Army's Fort Stewart in Georgia this morning

is an army sergeant. That's according to a law enforcement official, saying he's male and in custody.

Five soldiers are in the hospital, according to a verified Facebook page for Fort Stewart

and the Associated Hunter Army Airfield.

The nature of the soldier's injuries was unclear.

The post added there's no threat to the community, noting the shooter has been arrested.

The district said the lockdown that was in place at several Liberty County schools has been lifted.

The Fort Stewart

base trains and employees active and reserve Army units and is home to the 3rd Infantry

Division. More than 10,000 people including soldiers, family members, and Army

civilian employees reside on Ford Stewart or Hunter Army Airfield property,

according to the Combined Post's website.

There'll be a news conference this afternoon on the shooting, according to a media release.
