Last night, I was out at a restaurant and I was waiting to meet a friend.

So I always observed the behaviors of everyone around me.

It's kind of one of the quirks of doing this job.

I noticed this family sitting there and it was a mom and dad, I guess, and their three kids.

They were all beautifully dressed. I mean, the kids had on

white dresses that looked like they'd been pressed, so I know that took a lot of work. And I

noticed that the father had this really weird expression on his face. He was smiling, but it was one of

those tight smiles. And I could just tell that there was something weird going on beneath the

surface there. I don't want

everyone out there to think that I'm always going to this really dark place when it comes to human

nature, but when I do an episode about family annihilators, I can't help it. I am always thinking

about it. So in doing this week's episode about Jean-Claude Ramon, I did a lot of research into family

annihilators. And I wonder if there are any patterns we can find and what we can learn about

these types of cases. First of all, they're overwhelmingly committed by men. Researchers say the

percentage of these crimes committed by men is around 95%. When women do this, they tend to have a

history of abuse and mental health problems. When women commit these crimes, it's often because

they feel really depressed, they want to end their lives, and they feel like by leaving the

children behind, they would be abandoning them. This is pretty general, but a lot of the cases that I read

about seem to follow this pattern. There's not much research out there about familicide and family

annihilations, but there was one British study. There's an article about that study in Wired
