In a season marked by turmoil within the Justice Department,

and surprises that never seem to stop, the ruling Wednesday from the US Court of Appeals

may have been the most consequential of all.

Authored by a recent appointee of President Trump, it directed a federal judge to drop any

further inquiry into the case of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn,

and accept the Justice Department decision to let him off Scott Free, despite the fact

that he had previously pled guilty to lying to the FBI and twice affirm that plea under oath

in federal court. It was an astonishing development that seemed certain to stoke the

continued controversy surrounding Robert Mueller's Russia investigation, a probe that

continues to hang over Donald Trump's presidency and provokes him into fits of outrage on Twitter,

even though it has been over for more than a year. We'll discuss with Matt Miller, the former
