It was quickly called a Friday Night Massacre,

a completely unexpected announcement by Attorney General William Barr,

that Jeffrey Berman, arguably the single most powerful federal prosecutor in the country,

had decided to step down as US Attorney in the Southern District of New York.

Only Berman quickly made clear, he hadn't resigned at all, and had no intention of doing so,

until the next day when President Trump at Barr's request fired him.

What explains this bizarre chain of events, and does it have anything to do with the

sensitive cases Berman had been overseeing of direct interest to President Trump,

including a widely publicized probe into the overseas dealings of the President's personal lawyer,

Rudy Giuliani? We'll discuss with a former prosecutor in the same office.
