Hi from CNN. I'm Josh and Shana with the Five Things You Need to Know for Friday, November 7th.

Americans are bracing for chaos at airports across the country, as the Trump administration cuts 4% of flights at 40 airports nationwide.

The FAA's order will affect airports in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., among others.

Several major airlines preemptively cancelled hundreds of flights scheduled today and into the weekend.

Federal officials say reducing the number of flights will improve safety, as the ongoing

government shutdown has forced already understaffed air traffic controllers to

work mandatory overtime without pay.

And the flight cuts will gradually increase throughout next week, reaching 10% by next Friday

if no deal is reached to end the shutdown.

And in the battle over SNAP benefits, a federal judge ruled yesterday that the Trump administration

must fully cover

food stamp benefits for tens of millions of Americans in November.

The White House is appealing.

It's an absurd ruling because you have a federal judge effectively telling us what we have

to do in the midst of a Democrat government

shutdown. We can't have a federal court telling the president how he has to triage the situation.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump is gearing up for another day of diplomacy at the White House.

Trump will welcome Hungary's Prime Minister Victor Orban today, where they're expected to discuss Hungary's

insistence on buying Russian oil.

Orban has a close relationship with Russia's leader Vladimir Putin, and he's already threatened

to veto European Union sanctions against Moscow.
