| 0:00.0 | Today's 10-minute walk is helping both of us remain fitness consistent. |
| 0:07.0 | Hi, I'm Dave. Let's go for a walk. |
| 0:10.0 | If you are brand new to this podcast, brand new to the idea of walking as a fitness activity, |
| 0:20.0 | adding walking, looking at walking as a fitness activity, I'm looking at walking as exercise. |
| 0:24.6 | You're exploring, well, what do I do? What do I do every day? What should my goal be? |
| 0:32.6 | Today I want to talk to you and I want to talk about five options, five possible goals, |
| 0:40.6 | and then I want to give you my recommendation. It's actually what I do. So here's number one, |
| 0:50.2 | 10 minutes, 10 minutes every day, which is the length of this podcast. |
| 0:55.7 | And there are some great reasons why a 10-minute walk every day is a good goal. |
| 1:02.2 | Number one, it builds the habit. |
| 1:06.5 | It's a great goal to build the exercise habit because that really is your highest priority |
| 1:12.8 | right now is to build the habit of fitness, to build the habit of exercise. Building habits |
| 1:19.0 | is very, very hard. Breaking them is very easy. Habits take a lot longer to build. I think then we |
| 1:27.3 | recognize. Research indicates it takes about 66 days on average to build a habit. Some of us can do it in less time. Some of us need more time, but 66 days is the average time it takes to build a habit, so it takes longer than we think, |
| 1:44.7 | because I think we have this belief that it's 30 days. |
| 1:48.9 | 30 days and you've got a new habit. |
| 1:51.2 | For most of us, that's really not going to be the case. |
| 1:54.3 | So a 10-minute walk every day, setting the goal of walking 10 minutes, |
| 1:58.4 | is a great way to get started, a great way to build that habit. |
| 2:01.6 | Another thing about a 10 minute walk is it will change your mood. |
| 2:05.6 | If you're having a bad day, if you're frustrated, if you're angry, you go out and take a |
| 2:12.6 | walk, a 10 minute walk, and it's going to change your mood. And I we know this intuitively you know how often do we have a stretch during our day where things are not going well |
