So today we're going to be talking about finding the why behind your sewing.

And we're going to cover some tips from uncovering your why or your

purpose behind why you sew and how you can find a purpose for your sewing that has meaning for

you personally. And then next week in part two, we're going to talk about how to use your why to

choose sewing projects that are meaningful to you. So how to actually use this in your day-to-day sewing.

But first, before we do that, we have an icebreaker for makers to start us off. So the question for

today, Haley, is what's a sewing fail that you learned something important from? Oh, gosh.

Okay. Well, I've been sewing for a long time and I sew a lot, so I fail a lot,

but one that really stands out to me as being like very pivotal. And my sewing journey was I took

a tailoring class when I was in college and I decided that I wanted to make a tie to go with the suit that I made.

And so I went to a thrift store and I picked apart a tie and made a pattern from it.

And I was like looking inside the tie and there was all this interfacing and stuff.

And I was like, I'm making like a skinnier tie though.

Like I don't need that.

And so I skipped all of like the sew and interfacing and stuff that you need in a tie.

And a tie is cut on the bias.

Oh my gosh.

This tie and you hand sew the majority of a tie.
