My guest this week is Jennifer Pochinsky.

Jennifer uses the figure as a vehicle

to play with texture, paint, color, and wide open spaces.

She incorporates abstraction, expressive brush strokes and gestures into her work.

For Jennifer, the subject is almost incidental.

Although she loves the figure, her paintings could just as easily be about anything,

as long as she can play with the medium.

Jennifer studied painting at the University of Hawaii.

It was there that she realized her preconceived idea

that artists had to draw or paint perfectly

wasn't quite right.

Exposure to early 20th century artists like Picasso and Matisse changed her perspective and started her along a new trajectory.

In this episode, Jennifer and I talk about how she uses Instagram for inspiration, how she keeps

moving when it seems like a painting she's so invested in might not work out.
