Affirmations are words that we repeat to uplift and encourage us. Today, Dora shares an affirmation practice to help with emotional resiliency.  Dora Kamau holds a B.A. in Psychology and a B.S. in Psychiatric Nursing. She is a certified Mindfulness Meditation teacher and is working to complete her Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Teacher training this fall. I'm back again with another question from a lovely Headspace community member who writes,

What are your favorite affirmations for all that life throws at you?

Now if you don't know what affirmations are, their phrases created from your higher

self to encourage support and uplift you.

I consider myself an affirmation queen.

If you've ever come to my house, you know I have sticky notes with affirmations all over.

One of my most called upon affirmations is, everything is working out in my favor.

I will say when I first heard of affirmations, to be honest, I thought they were a bit awkward

and odd, especially when being asked to say them out loud.

The thing is, the feeling behind the affirmation is what matters most.

So when I tell myself, everything is working out in my favor.

I sense into what it would be like and feel like if that was true in that moment.

We have to feel what we're staying or affirmations won't be authentic and as a result, really

won't work.

So this is why it's important to create or find affirmations that truly feel affirming

and aren't just words that we're regurgitating.
