Hello and welcome to this sleepy bookshelf, where we put down our worries from the day and pick up a good book.

In our last episode we read the final pages of Jill.

For the rest of you, I will continue. Jill worked as a newspaper seller's assistant

for some weeks in order to get her back on her feet. When she chanced to have some down time

to read the paper herself,

she saw an advertisement looking for Gilbertina Trec Castle.

It appeared her father had died suddenly whilst she was in hospital,

and his lawyers were seeking her to claim his will.

He had failed to update this document in the years since he had

married, and so all his estate was passed to her. Her stepmother, whom she had decided to forgive,

was exceedingly sweet to her. Both her daughters had been married and lived elsewhere,

but she wanted to stay at the Trecastle Manor. Jill told her directly that she did not wish to live

with her, and that she may go and stay with either of her own children. In the years that followed, Jill enjoyed her return to society as a young, titled woman.

She did even see Kitty from time to time at various balls.

It seemed she was trying to elevate her husband to prominence in the political circles,

to no avail though, through no want of her own talents, but of his.

Jill never spoke to Kitty, however, for fear of drawing attention to their old connection.

But she did like to watch her from afar.
